Similan Islands

Similan Islands

Location:
Located in the Andaman Sea off Thailand’s southwest coast, the Similan Islands are a group of granite islands within a protected national park, about 70 km from Khao Lak.

Why it’s a top dive destination:
The Similans are world-renowned for their crystal-clear water, dramatic boulder formations, and thriving coral reefs. Beneath the surface, divers find everything from colorful reef fish and turtles to manta rays and whale sharks cruising through open blue water.

Highlights:

  • Massive granite boulders and swim-throughs at Elephant Head Rock

  • Manta rays and whale sharks at Richelieu Rock and Koh Bon

  • Vibrant coral gardens and white sand bays

  • Excellent visibility and warm tropical conditions

Fun Fact:
The Similan Islands’ unique granite seascapes are the result of ancient volcanic activity, creating underwater playgrounds of arches, tunnels, and smooth boulders unlike anywhere else in Thailand.
