Roca Partida: The Crown Jewel of Socorro
Roca Partida is the definition of "don't judge a book by its cover." From the surface, it looks like a lonely, guano-covered rock in the middle of the Mexican Pacific, but underwater, it is a skyscraper of life. As part of the Revillagigedo Archipelago, this pinnacle acts as a magnet for everything in the open ocean. Because there is nowhere else to hide for miles, the density of life here is mind-blowing. We are talking about vertical walls patrolling with Silvertips and Galapagos sharks, massive schools of Tuna blocking out the sun, and the friendly Giant Mantas that make this trip a bucket-list necessity.
Why We Chose This Sticker Design
We simply couldn't make a Roca Partida sticker without illustrating the site's most famous quirk: the "Shark Condos." We drew the Whitetip Reef Sharks piling on top of each other on the rocky ledges—a behavior that is absolutely iconic to this specific dive site! We balanced that cozy chaos against the deep blue of the open ocean, featuring the sleek silhouettes of Tuna and a Manta Ray in the distance. It’s a design that captures the contrast of the dive: the shelter of the rock on one side, and the wild, pelagic highway on the other.
Diving Roca Partida
Roca Partida is barely an island at all — a white-streaked rock about the size of a house, sticking out of open Pacific hundreds of kilometres from anywhere, in the Revillagigedo archipelago. Underwater it drops as a sheer pinnacle into deep blue, and because it is the only structure for miles, everything gathers there. Ledges on the walls hold whitetip reef sharks stacked like logs, while tuna, silvertips and hammerheads patrol the blue. It is dived as part of Socorro liveaboard itineraries and is regularly the highlight of the trip.

What is diving Roca Partida like?
Vertical and exposed. The rock drops as a sheer pinnacle, so you dive along a wall with open ocean on one side and nothing beneath you, working around the rock according to where the current is running. The signature sight is the ledges, where whitetip reef sharks pile in together to rest. Because there is no reef or shallow shelf, buoyancy control and depth awareness matter — it is easy to drift deeper than intended alongside a featureless wall.
How do you get to Roca Partida?
It is part of the Revillagigedo archipelago and is dived exclusively on Socorro liveaboard itineraries departing from Cabo San Lucas, roughly a 24-hour crossing to the island group and further to reach Roca Partida itself. Boats typically spend a day or two there within a week-long trip. The season runs November to May; the archipelago is a national park and UNESCO site, so park fees and permits apply on top of the trip cost.
