Koh Lanta is the ultimate launchpad for the most diverse diving in Thailand. It serves as the gateway to the legendary Hin Daeng and Hin Muang—deep, open-ocean pinnacles famous for massive red and purple soft corals and frequent encounters with Giant Manta Rays and Whale Sharks. But just a short boat ride away lies the stunning contrast of Koh Haa (The Five Islands). This cluster of limestone karsts protects a crystal-clear turquoise lagoon, offering everything from the famous "Cathedral" caves to relaxed coral gardens. It is a destination that truly offers the best of both worlds: deep pelagic action and scenic, lagoon-style tranquility.
Why We Chose This Sticker Design
For this visual tribute, we turned our lens toward the dramatic topography of Koh Haa. While the deep pinnacles are famous, the "Five Islands" are the region's undisputed scenic masterpiece. We used a split-shot composition to showcase the iconic ring of jagged green limestone cliffs rising from the Andaman Sea. The calm, protected water in the center represents the lagoon, capturing the breathtaking variety of diving—from the deep drop-offs outside the circle to the shallow, sandy bliss inside.
Diving Koh Lanta
Koh Lanta works mainly as the access point for Hin Daeng and Hin Muang — Red Rock and Purple Rock — two submerged pinnacles in the open Andaman Sea that rank among Thailand's best dives. Hin Muang takes its name from the purple soft coral covering its walls, and it drops past 60 metres, making it the deepest dive in Thai waters. Both attract manta rays and, occasionally, whale sharks. They are exposed, current-swept and a long boat ride offshore, so this is a step up from the sheltered diving elsewhere in Thailand.

When can you dive Hin Daeng and Hin Muang?
The Andaman season runs roughly November to April, when the seas are calm enough for the long offshore crossing — outside that the south-west monsoon usually makes the trip impractical and many operators stop running it. February to April is often quoted as the best period for manta and whale shark encounters. Trips are long days from Koh Lanta, so check that your operator visits both pinnacles rather than only one.
Are Hin Daeng and Hin Muang suitable for beginners?
Not really. Both are exposed offshore pinnacles with no shallow shelter, current that can run hard and walls that drop well beyond recreational limits — Hin Muang is the deepest dive site in Thailand. Operators generally require Advanced Open Water and recent experience. Koh Haa, closer to Lanta, is the better option for newer divers, with sheltered lagoons and easy caverns, and it is genuinely lovely diving in its own right.
