Raja Ampat 02: The Bearded Ambush
While Raja Ampat is famous for its landscapes, the real magic lies in what hides within the reef. The Tasselled Wobbegong is the region's signature shark, but it looks more like a weed-covered rock than an apex predator. Unlike Wobbegongs in other parts of the world that hide in caves, the sharks in Raja Ampat are often found resting boldly on top of large table corals or sponges. With a "beard" of skin flaps breaking up their outline, they are the ultimate ambush predators, lying perfectly still in the current while clouds of fish swim dangerously close.
Why We Chose This Sticker Design
This design serves as the marine life counterpart to our scenic island sticker. We focused the artwork on the intricate camouflage of the Tasselled Wobbegong, specifically highlighting the fringe of skin flaps around its jaw that gives it its name. It is depicted resting on a plate coral—a classic pose for this species in West Papua. To capture the sheer vibrancy of the environment, we filled the background with a school of pink and purple Anthias, representing the colorful chaos that defines the "Species Factory" of the Coral Triangle.
